Emerald Enclave

Welcome to the Emerald Enclave

Welcome to the Emerald Enclave. We need you. Nature is our mother. Our mother is great and powerful. She is beautiful beyond belief. She needs you. Civilization is out father. Our father is industrious and inspired. His might knows no limits. And yet he needs you too.

Nature. Civilization. One is the fundamental root of the tree of life, and one is the highest, most beautiful branch. Both need room to grow, and neither wishes the other ill. Yet, despite being two parts of the same wondrous tree, nature and civilization so often crowd, starve, and strangle one another. This cannot be allowed.

When nature grows too far and too fast, overwhelming the lives that spring from it, the Emerald Enclave is there to slash and trim. When civilization grows so broad and so heavy so as to crack the very trunk that supports it, we must step in and carefully thin the foliage until equilibrium is restored.

Our tree of life faces external threats as well. Monstrous parasites from beyond the grave and twisted abominations from beyond our world — these have no place in our garden and must be removed.

Ours is the garden of life and death, and we tend its mightiest tree. Sometimes that means protecting life, and sometimes that means dealing death. We have chosen you because we beleive you to be capable of both, and wise enough to know when to nurture and when to shear. precious few have both the skill and wisdom to make that distinction, but those who do are invaluable. Welcome to our garden. Tend it well.

The Emerald Enclave is a far-ranging group that opposes threats to the natural world and helps others survive the many perils of the wild. A ranger might be hired to lead a caravan through a treacherous mountain pass or the frozen tundra of Icewind Dale. A druid might volunteer to help a small village prepare for a long, brutal winter. Barbarians and witches who live like hermits most of the year might defend a town against marauding orcs or barbarians. Members of the Emerald Enclave know how to survive, and more importantly, they want to help others do the same. They are not opposed to civilization or progress, but they strive to prevent civilization and the wilderness from destroying one another.

Members of the Emerald Enclave are spread far and wide, and usually operate in isolation. They learn to depend on themselves more than others. Survival in a harsh world also demands great fortitude and mastery of certain fighting and survival skills. Members of the Enclave who dedicate themselves to helping others survive the perils of the wilderness are more social than others who are charged with defending sacred glades and preserving the natural balance.

ORIGINAL CODE:

  • Preserve nature in all its forms
  • Control human expansion
  • Recognize that nature encompassed more than just forests
  • Agree that magic should not be used for mass destruction
  • Warn against the use of magic on a grand scale for fear of unexpected side effects
  • Present a united front to the outside world.

MODERN DOGMA: Natural order is to be respected and preserved, and  forces that would upset that natural order should be destroyed.  Elemental forces should be kept in check to prevent the wilderness and civilization from wiping out one another. The wilderness can be harsh, and those who are good and who cannot survive in it should be aided.
